Nightmare on Elm Street - The Dead of Night Robin lay down on her pillow, intent on getting a good nights sleep. She did not get her wish. In her dream, she was in a park, calm as ever. In a moment, a cat walked out from some bushes; probably a stray. She bent down to pet it, and it nudged her leg lightly with its head. She noticed something strange about the cat. On one paw, was a miniature glove, with blades sticking out. It took a swipe at her arm, and it drew blood. She pushed the cat away, and started to walk away. Looking, back, she noticed the cat was now wearing a dirty brown hat. It was following her. She quickened her pace, and so did the cat. The cat rose on all fours, and fur began to fall off, as it grew in size. When she looked back, it was no longer a cat, but a grotesque man wearing a striped red and green shirt. "Time for the cat to eat little Robin!" He snickered, and grinned an evil grin. She started to run, but the madman was quick to chase her. She suddenly heard in the distance what sounded like a firebell ringing. She closed her eyes, to scared to look. All sound subsided, except for the bell. She dared a peek through her eyes, to see her bedroom. She was safe, at least for now. Her mother opened the door, slowly. She smiled and said, "So, you're awake, sleepyhead. Listen, Julie is here, time for school, summer vacation's over." As her mother left, she got out of bed. She got out from her covers, and she noticed a few small scrapes on her leg. She thought that she must have cut herself on the way home the day before. She quickly got dressed, and walked out the front door. Julie was standing in front of her car, a gift for her last birthday. Robin hopped in Julie's new car. "I had the weirdest dream last night. There was this cat. It tried to kill me. It had this little razored glove on one paw. I started walking away, and it, like followed me. Then it turned into this ugly guy. It was really weird. But the strange thing is... the cat scratched me on my leg. When I woke up, I saw the same kinda scratches." "Hmm.. That is weird. I don't usually remember my dreams." Julie replied. At that moment, they pulled up to the school driveway. "Well, here we are!" she exclaimed. "First day of school and I'm already sick of it." she sighed. "School is such a drag." "Well, it's a new school for you, so maybe you'll like it..I'll introduce you to a few of my friends from last year." Later, inside the school building, just before the bell rang, Julie met up with a group of people. "Everybody, this is Robin, Robin, this is Mark," she gestured to a cute, tall boy with dirty brown hair. "...Peter," this time to a tall, black haired boy, with slightly long hair. He bowed slightly. "...Kelly," a blond, blue eyed, thin person who seemed to be popular. "...Mike," an oriental with black hair, wearing glasses. "...and Tracy," a slender girl with long red hair. Mike smiled, "We're all in the same class.. Me and Peter broke into the computer files." As the bell rang, there was a stampede of people running for their classes. They were right outside their's. They walked inside, and sat in their seats. The next person to walk into the door, was a pretty lonely looking girl with brown hair. She timidly asked, "Is this room 104?" Mark turned around to look at her, "Yeah, sure is, have a seat, anywhere." To Kelly he whispered, "Hey, she's kind of cute. She must be new here. Introduce yourself," The new girl sat in a seat near Mark, but not too close. The day passed uneventfully until the seventh period, where a bored Julie fell asleep in class. She apparently woke up less than a second later, where the class seemed to be empty, except for the teacher, who was scribbling on the board. In a calm voice, the teacher said, "Now now Julie, you know from last year that sleeping in class means immediate detention. As a result, the series turns out to be quite cheap to shoot and at the same time interesting for people who watch it. It is also important that a lot of rude, curse and obscene words have been bleeped from the plot lines – they simply would not work for the Americans.

Law. Discussion of views - Essay Example Difference between law and morality Laws are sets of rules that are adopted by societies for regulating behaviour and conducts of its members. The society can be an institution or a territorial set up such as nations. Morality is on the other hand defined by ethical values that are held by a society. It is based on cultural practices of set ups such as communities and institutions. Principles of law and morality therefore interact with some similarities and differences. One of the differences between law and morality is in their sources. Gardner explains that while morality originates from a collective responsibility of a society, law is a creation of an individual or a group of specific people. He argues that law is made on purpose and is therefore objective driven. As a result, law is viewed as a creation of necessity and predetermined intentions. This distinguishes law from morality that emanates from cultural practices that have been held and approved as acceptable by a given soc iety. It can therefore be identified that while law is a consequence of circumstances that establishes the aims of formulating the laws, morality is based on a person’s conscience within his immediate society (Gardner, n.d., 1-3). A boundary between law and morality is also drawn with respect to the content of the two. If the two were similar, then they would be regulating matters in the same approach. This is however not the case because the two are sometimes in conflict. Some legal issues are not moral. At the same time, there exist moral issues that are prohibited by law. There are for instance laws that allows for gay marriages and slavery. In the context of morality, gay marriage and slavery are unacceptable to human sanctity aspects. Similarly, the approach to implementation of law and morality are different. While law relies on the punitive consequences for disobedience for its enforcement, morality is adopted as a culture by its subjects and does not attract a punishm ent for disobedience (Wku, 2001, p. 1). Cane agrees with these opinions that morality is a concept that exist within a society and is to be identified with, while law is created by people and must be obeyed. An act can therefore be immoral and yet legal (Cane, 2002, p. 12, 13). Difference between criminal and civil law There are also a number of differences between criminal law and civil law. The differences range from their scope to procedures that are involved in litigation. While criminal law defines offenses against a society as a whole, civil law defines wrongs committed by an individual against another individual. A criminal wrong has a wider scope and has a potential of affecting the public at large. An example of a criminal wrong is public nuisance such as emission of a poisonous air pollutant in to the atmosphere. This has a potential of affecting every individual who is within the pollutant’s vicinity. A wrong under civil law on the other hand affect a specific pers on. Private nuisance such as throwing objects into a person’s piece of land causes damage to the specific landowner or specific peoples who have right over ownership or usage of the infringed piece of land. No individual person can therefore claim compensation in a criminal case (Overbeck and Belmas, 2011, p. 19; Elias, 2009, p. 51-54). One of the most significant practitioners who championed the use of learning philosophy as a basis of adult learning programs was John Dewey. Dewey particularly pioneered the sub-field of reflective learning which eventually brought a number of new experiences to adult educational theories and perspectives. According to Dewey (1963), â€Å"lea rning is a lifelong process and individuals continue to learn new things and grow throughout their life times† (p.19). This view, however, contradicted the previous view that both growth and learning processes are finite and diminish once an individual has reached adulthood. Dewey also proposed that learning can only take place best within an institutional setting which does not obstruct any experience, and, therefore, learning environments should be designed to create new experiences and develop personality of the learners. The current workshop model of adult education programs is largely built on Dewey’s ideas. The modern models of adult educational programs have also been significantly shaped by developmental psychology, particularly through the use of social psychological theories of adult learning and development. According to these theories, adults are psychologically different from the normal young college students who are often in their adolescence ages. Consequ ently, the adult educational program models should demand a relatively different learning structure. For example, the theory of psychological development suggests that personality development occurs throughout the life span of an individual. As a person grows and matures, there is often a desire for new meanings which naturally is absent in childhood. On the other hand, Havinghurst (1971, p17) believed that the learning processes of adults are largely shaped by their subconscious social developmental tasks such as their need to find a mate, quest of how to live with a partner, how to develop their career goals, and how to establish their civic responsibilities. According to this perspective, adults can only learn best when they use learning programs that motivate and allow them to learn new behaviors that will enable them to achieve these task demands. The act of reflection is seen as a way of encouraging the development of independent, competent and self-governing professionals Appealing in reflective training is allied with development in the excellence of care, motivating individual and professional growth, and concluding the gap between theory and practice. This encourages a clear explanation of the circumsta nces, investigation of feelings, evaluation of the occurrence, and analysis to understand how we will respond if again such situation arises. This type of reflection studies is very important and they really help to analyze our experiences and also enable us to cope with the patients in a good manner in the future. Through this study i have gained some professional knowledge and it helped me to set some personal goals on my own and rest in my professional life i can work keeping all these things in mind. The two main areas of focus are to make an effective communication with the patient and also try to keep a good and healthy relation with the patient. Description: In this part am going to explain about n situation that has taken place during my clinical placement in India. I got the duty in the cardiac ward and duty was going on smooth. Personally am an individual who cares my patient more and listen to their problems. One day a 55 years old man named A was admitted in the clinic because for undergoing bypass surgery. All the details were collected and he was admitted in a ward. He was given dress and was then instructed to be on the bed and take rest. The time was around 4 pm and I went for tea break. When i came back I was really shocked. The person was having mental disability and he fell down from the bed. Suddenly bleeding hematoma occurred and the patient was transferred to Coronary Care unit (CCU). He was in CCU for two days and after that he met with death. This event was really shocking to me and it was a worst day in my life. I could not sleep well because it was ma carelessness which caused the death of a person. I would never leave him alone in his bed especially when there was no one with him. At that time there were no relatives with him and I went for tea break. A minor mistake in my duty caused the death of a person. The main goal of a nurse is to care his patient and I did a opposing action even though it was not purposely. Feelings: It is one of the unforgettable events in my life which I always remember. I really felt so bad and depressed at that time and when I saw his wife my degree of depression again escalated. Even when he was admitted in the CCU I expected that he will survive and I was daily praying for that and even my family did the same thing. It was completely the mistake of staff which caused the death of that child. During the time when he was in CCU I was with his wife all the time and even I felt her as my mother. She was so tired and I bought food and drinks for her and when she refused to have that I was feeding her. I was crying in my mind because if i had done my duty without any faults she would not have lost her husband and their children will have their father. After this particular even am always attentive in my duty and will not allow any minor error to occur in my duty and I always try to be punctual. Evaluation: Evaluating this particular event I can understand the worst thing I did was I went for tea break when no one was with him. According to the hospital rules we were instructed to take the vulnerable consent of the admitted person of he is above six years. I forgot that procedure and that person had mental disorder. The person with mental disorders is usually tied over to the bed and I forgot that formality. It was the careless thing I did in my life. As a result of that he fell down from the bed and his head hit the floor and sudden bleeding occurred. It made me so depressed and only the care and concern I gave to his wife and children relaxed up to a small extent and I went through a bad situation in my life Analysis: The moral I learned out of this bad event is that doing the duty without a chance of minor gap is so essential or even else it can result in some serious issues. The problem was that I forgot to take the consent of the person and I left him alone. Another alternative for me to go for the tea break was to tell somebody else to take care of him until I come back. I forgot to do everything and did not take serious care for that person. Afterwards I am very strict in my duties and always talk to my patients and their relatives and try to understand their problem. Communication has a great role in building a relationship. Conclusion: I could conclude that I understood the significance of communication with the patient such as talking with them and their relatives, paying concern for them, trying to have a in depth knowledge about the patient and try not to make any minor faults in the duties. Actually helping his wife and children was a good experience for me who actually defines the nursing job and it really helped me to relax. Even though they were able to charge case against me they did not do that because of my care, compassion, and support for them. Action Plan: My action plan for the in the future when similar event occurs is that I will care the patient to my best and will talk with them freely and try my level best to understand their problem and help them. The strength of a relation lies in proper communication between the patient and the nurse and it is very important for nurse because they are closer to the patient. According to the nurses they define healing as caring the patient as proper care is better than medicine in some cases. One of the main goals of the health care worker is to provide the best care for my patients. In order to build a good relationship with the patient proper communication with them is very essential and it must be continuous in nature also. Another action plan I would like to add to this is that to understand the disability of the patients for example, problems such as deafness, mental disability, blindness and so more care can be given to them. Another important point is that a nurse should be lenient and m ust withstand any behaviour from the patient and should never misbehave with their patients. In this report I have described my clinic experience using the Gibbs reflective model and also doing this reflective study help us to remember things in an easy way because practical knowledge is better than theoretical knowledge. In this Reflective study I narrated my experience using the Gibbs frame work model.

Works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft It is morning on August 20, 1890 and the world of literature is about to change, though it will not understand just how much so for decades. It is on this morning that a precocious child, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, is born. Lovecraft would begin his writing career at the tender age of six with his short story â€Å"The Noble Eavesdropper†. He would grow up to be well read and well learned (he was producing scientific journals for his friends at age nine), despite never finishing high school (Joshi para 1- 4). Now, nearly three quarters of a century after his death, he still influences the genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. His influence can be felt in the creations of Robert Bloch (Psycho), Stephen King (The Dark Half, et al), Neil Gaiman (Sandman, The Day I Sold My Dad for Two Fish), and Alan Moore (Watchmen, From Hell). (Wikipedia: Lovecraft para 1-2) How can one man influence so many, and not just in the genres of fiction? A simple internet search will reveal site after site devoted to the works of HP Lovecraft, the creatures of his creation, and the mysterious Necronomicon. This last is especially interesting as many of those sites recount the significance of this tome to magical and spiritual endeavors. In fact, books claiming to be English translations can be purchased online and in bookstores. It is, of course, purely fictitious. The writer of the tome, one Abdul Alhazred, was a name that Lovecraft had created at the age of five because of his fascination with Arabian Nights. (Straub 831) So what is it about his works that they have such an effect that people would believe a work of fiction to be real? Could he indeed be a conduit of greater myster... ...e faith.
